Product FAQ's

What is the MAX solar input on the Walrus G4 Plus?

The Walrus G4 Plus supports a maximum solar input of 8,000W, delivered through one MPPT input port. However, the input voltage range is 90V – 230V, and the maximum current is 80A. This means your solar panel configuration must stay within this voltage window to operate safely and efficiently.

Recommended Panel Configuration:
If using our 550W solar panels (Voc 49.9V, Isc 14.0A), do not connect more than 4 panels in series:
-4S (Series) × 4P (Parallel) = 16 panels total;
-Series Voc ≈ 199.6V, safely within 90–230V range;
-Total current ≈ 56A, safely within 80A MPPT input current limit.

This configuration delivers:
-16 × 550W = 8,800W (nominal), actual may peak around 8,000W under good sunlight.

Always double-check your wiring and use MC4 fuses, combiner boxes, and proper solar disconnects.
Note: If you're building this yourself, using a combiner box or solar charge controller with voltage regulation is advised. We recommend using a string inverter calculator or consulting with a solar electrician for custom setups.

How long can a G4 Plus battery power my home or devices?

The Walrus G4 Plus comes equipped with a massive 23kWh NMC battery and a built-in 13kW (16.5kVA) inverter, capable of powering both 120V and 240V appliances. It’s built to handle whole-home or heavy off-grid use, depending on how much energy you consume.

On a full charge, it can typically run:
-A refrigerator, lights, internet, and electronics for 2–3 days
-Or heavier loads like mini-splits, laundry, microwave, water pump, or tools for 10–15 hours depending on usage.

Full Home Backup:
If your home uses ~25–30kWh/day, the G4 Plus can typically cover most of a full day’s energy, including HVAC, fridge, lights, electronics, etc.
Pairing it with solar panels (up to 8,000W) allows for continuous recharge during sunlight hours, significantly extending runtime.

Output Capability for Power-Hungry Loads:
1. 13kW continuous output can handle:
-Electric oven + microwave simultaneously;
-Central AC + well pump;
-Power tools, induction cooktops, etc.
2. 240V/50A output = compatible with most home breaker panels, RV plugs, generators, and emergency circuits.

Recharge Capability:
If paired with 16 × 550W solar panels, the G4 Plus can recharge from 0–100% in as little as 3–4 hours of strong sunlight (weather permitting), enabling daytime usage + evening backup in an off-grid or hybrid setup.

Whether you’re looking for emergency home backup, full off-grid living, or powering an RV garage / workshop, the Walrus G4 Plus offers enough capacity and power to reliably support your lifestyle.

Can I install this system myself, or do I need a professional?

The Walrus G4 Plus is designed with ease of installation in mind. It includes:
-A built-in inverter, battery, and charge controller;
-Preconfigured connections and internal BMS;
-Standard AC output via SS2-50P (twist-lock) or NEMA 14-50R plug.

If you have prior experience with off-grid or backup power systems, basic setup is plug-and-play. However, for new off-grid environments, we highly recommend hiring a licensed electrician — not only to safely wire AC loads and input, but also to help set up a dedicated sub-panel to isolate critical circuits from the main grid (if any), ensuring proper load balancing and safety.

This ensures that your system is up to code, operates safely, and protects both your devices and your solar investment.
