Voltage is the electrical potential difference between a battery’s terminals. It determines what equipment the battery can power safely, how efficiently it works, and how the rest of the system (inverter, controller, wiring) needs to be sized.
You need to match the battery’s nominal voltage to the voltage requirements of your inverter, charger, or device. Using mismatched voltage can lead to underperformance or even damage.
Nominal voltage is the “standard” operating voltage (what the battery is rated at). Full charge voltage is the higher voltage it reaches when 100% charged. Knowing both helps understand how much usable power you get.
Higher voltage systems often let you draw the same power with less current, which means less heat and stress on components. But things like proper charge/discharge rates, temperature, and battery chemistry matter heavily.
There are typical voltage charts for different battery types (especially lithium), showing what voltage corresponds to certain % of charge. Checking the voltage with a voltmeter helps you estimate charge level and avoid deep discharges.
